Using the Adventure Mind, Principle #6, Create a Grand Vision for Your Life

Create a Grand Vision for your Life

I hope you have enjoyed reading my six principles to cultivating your adventure mind.  If you missed them you can click the links and read them all.

#5 Desire to live every day to it’s fullest in happiness

#4 Cultivate Risk

#3 The ability to discard what other people think

#2 Care more about doing than having

#1 Cultivate the ability to think outside your area code

My final priciple is really a culmination of the other five.  By now you’ve realized that by thinking BIG, by not caring what others think, by focusing on doing instead of having and believing you can and should be happy you are ready to step into risk and take on YOUR adventure life.

So create a HUGE, GRAND vision for yourself. Look back at the list you made under principle number 2, of things you want to accomplish. These things most likely appear more “doable” now that you are cultivating the adventurous mind. You can actually envision these things happening and the happiness you will bring to your life by doing them.

Here is a list of a few of the things I never would have accomplished over the past 25 years if I did not continuously cultivate my adventure mind using the principals above.

Climb in the Himalayas

Travel to all seven continents

Scuba dive the world’s best destinations including Galapagos (6x), Palau (5x), Papua New Guinea (2x), Truk Lagoon (2x), Cocos Island, CR (2x), Fiji (5x), French Polynesia (2 years), the entire Caribbean, Australia (3x) and many places off the grid

10 years guiding in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion National Parks,

15 years guiding all over Europe

5 years guiding in Central America

Work on six different cruise ships worldwide

See Antarctica, one of THE most amazing places in the world

Too many to count world famous attractions such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Ephesus, Cinque Terre, Great Pyramids, Great Barrier Reef, and over 15 crossings of the Panama Canal and Suez Canal

Six crossings of the Atlantic Ocean

Visits to islands I can’t pronounce such as Niatoputapu and Tuop

Climb the highest peaks in Spain and the Netherlands

Live in a remote area like Montana and not rely on where I live to make a living

Take thousands of people scuba diving the world over

Start a non profit foundation

Travel to over 108 countries

Visit world cities such as Istanbul, Paris, Marrakech, Kathmandu, Barcelona, London, Athens and Cairo

Innumerable cultural experiences across the globe

7500 scuba dives

I print this list to show you a few of the things you can accomplish if you put your adventure mind to the task.

I would like to leave you with one of my favorite poems about life.  If you never visualize and believe you can have a grand vision you won’t ever have it.  If you ask only a penny of life, that is what you will receive.

I bargained with Life for a penny

And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;
For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have gladly paid

 Jessie Belle Rittenhouse (1869–1948)
