Why We Think This Place Kicks Butt! (aka-Why Do We Go Here?)
The Amazing Seas Book Event is a unique festival spanning the globe and we are inviting you! Each year, we will travel to the best SCUBA diving destinations in the world, stay at an exotic resort, dive amazing reefs, have a blast with friends and shoot the definitive hard cover, coffee table book for that area. Would you like to see your images showcased in a gorgeous book? Yeah, us too!
For 2011, we’ve chosen Borneo Malaysia because diving the reefs of Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai and Si Amil is a killer combo of world class macro critters and the pristine coral, schooling fish, abundant turtles and big 2000′ walls of Sipadan. There are walls there that remind us of Palau, only better. The water’s warm, the vis is good and the diving is easy. On “mainland” Borneo, up the Kinabatangan River, is an Amazon like wilderness.
What’s the Adventure?
Come and vacation for a week – or more! – at Sipadan Water Village, a 100% over-water bungalow dream resort. We have reserved the best critter finding divemasters and will have private boats. All the details are taken care of. Just show up for the fun and adventure. During the week, you are invited to shoot and learn with world renowned underwater photographers including Mauricio Handler whose work has been used by National Geographic. Group sizes are kept small to ensure personalized attention. NO CATTLE BOATING HERE! Bring your glass of wine in the evenings to the slide show bar party! This event is open to individuals as well as clubs/societies. Your photo club can reserve a private week or you can join others. Non-camera toting diver partners as well as non-diving partners are welcome!
The Book
Using your best images, we will be working with a professional publisher for layout, design and printing of the book. Each person will receive a copy and additional copies can be ordered by your club or shop and used for fundraising, etc. We take care of the complete production and shipping. How cool is that?
The Prizes
There will be thousands of dollars in giveaways and prizes from event sponsors. This will include fun competitions for the book covers. Each Friday night, we’ll gather in a festive atmosphere to decide on the winning photos. Your club will be showcased and your photographers ecstatic with being published in a stunning coffee table book. Divers will have the opportunity to try new, top of the line underwater photo gear from the most innovative manufacturers.
Giving Back
A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to support the ocean through the Ocean of Hope Foundation, a 501(3)c non profit foundation.
